What is a .OAM file?
An OAM file is a special kind of animated picture or widget that is made using a program called Adobe Edge Animate. This program is part of a bigger family of Adobe programs that help people create things for the web using modern web technologies like HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. Think of an OAM file as a little package that contains everything needed to show a cool animation or interactive feature on a website or in a digital document.
Originally, people made these OAM files with Adobe Edge Animate, but even though this specific program isn't being updated anymore, you can still make and use OAM files with other Adobe programs. These files are really handy because you can put them into digital documents made with Adobe InDesign, add them to websites you're building with Adobe Dreamweaver, or use them in other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
To open and work with an OAM file, you can use several different Adobe programs. Even though Adobe Edge Animate is no longer available, Adobe Animate (the 2023 version) and Adobe InDesign (also the 2023 version) can open these files. Adobe Dreamweaver, the 2021 version, can also work with OAM files.
Inside an OAM file, you'll find all sorts of things like shapes, pictures, and a timeline that tells the animation when to play different parts. If you want to make one of these files, you can do it in Adobe Animate or even in the older Adobe Edge Animate if you still have it. The process involves choosing some settings and then publishing your project, which creates the OAM file.
Even though Adobe Edge Animate isn't being updated anymore, OAM files are still useful for adding animations and interactive elements to various projects, especially if you're using other Adobe software.
