What is a .ORB file?
An ORB file is a special kind of digital book or eBook file. It is made to be opened and read using a specific program called ORB, which stands for Original Book Reader. This program is like a digital library for your computer where you can open and read ORB eBooks. These eBooks can have everything a regular book has, like a cover, a title page, a table of contents, and index pages, all in a digital format.
To read an ORB file, you need to use the ORB Reader program. This program is made for computers and is available for both Windows and macOS, so most people with a computer should be able to use it. ORB files are a bit special because they are compressed, which means they are made smaller using something called Zip compression. This is good because it makes the eBook files take up less space on your computer. Inside these compressed ORB files, there are .SWF files, which are the parts that make up the eBook you see and read in the ORB Reader.
If you find an ORB file and you want to see what's inside it without using the ORB Reader, there's a trick you can do. You can change the name of the file from ending in ".orb" to ending in ".zip". This makes your computer think the file is a Zip file, which is a common type of compressed file. After you do this, you can use any program that opens Zip files to look inside and see the contents of the ORB file, like the .SWF files that make up the eBook. This can be useful if you're curious about how the eBook is put together or if you're having trouble opening the file in ORB Reader.
