What is a .P3 file?
The .P3 file extension is used for a type of file called a Primavera P3 Project File. This file is created by a software program called Primavera P3, which is mainly used for planning large projects, like those in construction. The file contains important information about a project, such as the list of tasks that need to be done, the schedule for when these tasks should be completed, and the resources (like time, materials, and labor) needed for the project. This helps project managers organize, plan, and keep track of the project's progress.
To open a .P3 file, you can use a program called Oracle Primavera. Although Primavera P3 was originally developed by a company called Primavera Systems, Oracle Corporation bought Primavera Systems in 2006. Oracle continued to develop the software, and the newer version is called Primavera P6. Even though Primavera P6 uses a different file extension (.XER) for its project files, it can still open the older .P3 files. To do this in Primavera P6, you would go to the "File" menu and select "Import" to open the .P3 file.
It's important to note that Oracle stopped providing official support for Primavera P3 on December 31, 2010. This means they no longer offer help or updates for this version of the software. However, users can still use Primavera P6 to access and manage their older .P3 files.
