What is a .PA file?
A .PA file is a special kind of file that is made smaller (compressed) by a program called ConeXware PowerArchiver. This program is like a tool that helps you pack your files into a smaller box so they take up less space on your computer or are easier to send to someone else. The .PA file is made using a special method called the Advanced Codec Pack (PA) format. This method is smart because it can look at what kind of file it is dealing with and choose the best way to make it smaller without losing important parts of it. It can also keep your files safe by locking them with a very strong lock called FIPS 140-2 256-bit AES encryption. This means that only people who have the key (or password) can open and see the files.
People use PowerArchiver to make .PA files for two main reasons: to save space, so they can keep more files on their computer or other storage places, and to keep their files safe, especially if they have important or private information in them.
To open a .PA file, you need to use the ConeXware PowerArchiver program. This program works on computers that use Windows or macOS. Besides .PA files, PowerArchiver can also open and make many other types of compressed files, like .ZIP, .RAR, and .7Z, which are just other ways of making files smaller and easier to manage.
When PowerArchiver came out with a new version in 2017, they introduced this special .PA format. It has two special settings for making files smaller: one that works quickly but might not make the file as small as possible, and another that takes a bit more time but makes the file as small as it can be. PowerArchiver also mixes up the data in a special way before locking it, which makes the .PA files even safer than other types of locked files.
