What is a .PC2 file?
The .PC2 file extension is used for a type of picture or image file known as a Degas Elite Medium Res Image File. This kind of file is specifically designed to work with a program called Degas Elite, which is a tool for editing images that was made for computers called Atari ST. These were popular in the 1980s and early 1990s.
The images saved in .PC2 format have a specific look because they are created at a standard resolution of 640 pixels wide by 200 pixels tall. This means the pictures are quite detailed but not as high resolution as modern images. Also, these images can only use up to 4 different colors, which makes them quite simple compared to the full-color images we are used to today.
If you have a .PC2 file and want to view or edit it, you would ideally use the Degas Elite program on an Atari ST computer. However, since those systems are quite old and not commonly used anymore, there are modern programs that can also open .PC2 files. Two examples of such programs are XnViewMP and Lemkesoft GraphicConverter. Both of these are available for current computers and can handle .PC2 files, allowing you to view and possibly edit these images on a modern system.
It's also worth noting that Degas Elite used another file extension, .PI2, for its files. This means if you come across .PI2 files, they are related and can be opened and edited with the same programs as .PC2 files.
