What is a .PCK file?
A .PCK file is a special kind of file used by people who make video games with a program called Godot Engine. Godot Engine is a free tool that lets people create both simple and complex video games that can be played on computers and phones. The .PCK file is like a box that contains all the things needed to add new parts or changes to a game made with Godot Engine. This could be anything from new levels, characters, or even fixing problems in the game.
To open or use a .PCK file, you would need to use the Godot Engine itself or a special tool made for Godot called the Godot Pck Tool. These tools understand how to unpack the .PCK file and add the new content or changes to the game.
When it comes to sharing these .PCK files, there's a program called System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), which is a tool used by companies to send software updates to lots of computers at once. SCCM can take a .PCK file, make it smaller so it's easier to send over the internet, and then send it to a computer that acts like a delivery hub. This hub, known as a Distribution Point (DP), holds onto the .PCK file until the computers that need the update are ready to download and install it.
It's important to note that SCCM used to be called Systems Management Server (SMS) a long time ago, before 2003. So, if you hear someone talking about SMS in this context, they're actually referring to what's now known as SCCM.
