What is a .PDO file?
A .PDO file is a special kind of file used by people who love making models out of paper. It is made by a program called Pepakura Designer. This program takes models from the computer (which are in 3D) and turns them into something you can print out and fold to make a real-life model. Inside a PDO file, there's a 3D model and its 2D version that you need to cut out and fold. These 2D pieces are designed to be printed. Once printed, you can cut them out and put them together to make a 3D paper model that looks just like the one on the computer.
To open a PDO file, you can use two main programs: Tama Pepakura Designer and Tama Pepakura Viewer. Pepakura Designer is the program you use if you want to create or change a PDO file. It lets you take a 3D model from the computer and "unfold" it into a 2D pattern that you can print. This pattern has lines and marks that show you where to fold and cut so you can make the model yourself. You can use many types of 3D model files with Pepakura Designer, like .DXF, .OBJ, .3DS, .LWO, .STL, .KML, and .KMZ files. Once you pick a 3D model, the program opens it up and saves a new version that's flat and ready to print as a PDO file. If you click on parts of the 2D design in the program, it will show you where they fit on the 3D model.
If you just want to look at a PDO file without changing it, you can use Pepakura Viewer. This program is free and comes with Pepakura Designer. It lets you see the PDO files, which is handy if you're trying to build a model and need to see how the pieces go together.
