What is a .PJPEG file?
A .PJPEG file is a type of image file known as a Progressive JPEG Image. This format is special because it allows the image to load in stages, which can be very useful when internet speeds are slow. Instead of waiting for the whole image to download before seeing anything, with a PJPEG file, you start seeing a lower-quality version of the image first, which gradually improves in detail and clarity as more data is received. This happens because the file contains multiple "scans" or layers of the image, each adding more detail.
The PJPEG format is actually a variation of the standard JPEG format, which is widely used for storing digital images. If you have a PJPEG file and are having trouble opening it, a simple trick is to change the file extension from .pjpeg to .jpg. This tells your computer to treat it like a regular JPEG file.
You can open PJPEG files with almost any image viewer, but you might need to rename the file extension as mentioned. On all types of computers and devices, standard image viewing software should be able to handle the file once it's renamed to .jpg. Additionally, although Microsoft Internet Explorer used to support this file type directly, it has been discontinued. Other modern web browsers and image viewers will still work perfectly for viewing PJPEG files.
