What is a .RAD file?
The .RAD file extension is used for a type of file called Radar ViewPoint Radar Data. This file is created by a program called Reality AdLib Tracker, which is used for making music. The .RAD file contains all the details needed to play a song, including the notes and the instruments used. It can have up to 32 different sections, called patterns, and can use up to 31 different instruments. These files are usually quite small, often 10 kilobytes or less.
To open a .RAD file, you can use the Reality Adlib Tracker program or another program called Adlib Tracker II. These programs understand the .RAD file format and can play the music contained in these files.
.RAD files are written in a code format known as XML. This format can also include special settings that change how the music sounds, like making the colors and intensity of sounds different, even in high quality (HDR). If you're working with video game development, specifically for creating or modifying game maps, you can use a command (vrad -lights bspmapname.rad) to add lighting effects from a .RAD file to a BSP map file, which is a type of file used for storing the geometry of game levels.
