What is a .RCC file?
An RCC file is a special kind of computer file used by a program called Autodesk Recap. Autodesk Recap is a tool that helps people make 3D models or 2D drawings from pictures. The RCC file holds information that was collected by using a special camera that can scan things in 3D. This camera is usually placed on a tripod and can see the details of objects from one spot without moving. Because these 3D scans can be very big and take up a lot of space on a computer, RCC files are made smaller (compressed) so they don't fill up the computer's storage too quickly.
If you want to open an RCC file, you need to use a program called Autodesk ReCap Pro. This is the only program that can understand and work with RCC files properly.
You will only come across RCC files if you are using Autodesk Recap software and you have used it to scan something in 3D. When you do a scan and save your project, Autodesk Recap puts these RCC files in a special folder named "Support" along with other types of files that are related to your project. These other files might include LLT, DIFF, RCS, and THUMBNAIL files, which all serve different purposes in helping to create and manage your 3D model or drawing.
The 3D scans that turn into RCC files are usually made with high-tech cameras from brands like Leica, Faro, Riegl, Z+F, Trimble, and Topcon. These cameras are very good at capturing detailed information about objects and spaces, which is why they are used to create accurate 3D models and drawings.
