What is a .STH file?
The .STH file extension refers to a Lotus Domino Stash File. This is a secure file type primarily used to store passwords for a Lotus Domino key ring file, which has the extension .KYR. When a server key ring is created, an .STH file is automatically generated alongside it. This file is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of the server's key management system.
The .STH file is saved under the same name as its corresponding key ring file to keep things organized. It is important to store this file in two key locations: the Notes data directory on the client machine and the Domino directory on the server. This ensures that the password is accessible both locally and on the server for authentication and security purposes.
To open an .STH file, you would typically use IBM Lotus Notes or IBM Domino. However, it's important to note that IBM Domino has been discontinued, so while older versions of the software may still be able to open .STH files, it's primarily IBM Lotus Notes that is used for this purpose now.
Additional Information: The creation of an .STH file is part of a larger process involving multiple related files including STI, STW, and STIP files. These files are all interconnected and are named after the instrument they are associated with in the Lotus Domino environment. When you save a sound in the application, you do so in the User Preset area. By naming your sound and clicking OK, you create a STIP file. This action also automatically generates the .STH file, along with STI and STW files, and places them in the folder designated for the "Parent Sound." Each of these files contains specific data that the STIP file utilizes.
