What is a .STN file?
A file with the .STN extension is a type of image file known as a Genuine Fractals Image. It is created using a software plug-in called Genuine Fractals, which is used with Adobe Photoshop, a popular image editing program. The STN file format is special because it uses the STiNG method to save images. This method allows the image to be scaled, or resized, to different sizes without losing any quality. This is very useful when you need to make an image larger or smaller but want it to still look clear and sharp.
The .STN files are resolution-independent, meaning they do not rely on a specific number of pixels per inch to maintain high quality. This makes them ideal for various uses where image quality needs to be preserved despite changes in size.
To open an STN file, you will need Adobe Photoshop. However, it is important to note that you must also have the Perfect Resize 7.5 plug-in (or an earlier version of this plug-in) installed in Photoshop. Perfect Resize is the new name for the Genuine Fractals plug-in and it helps in managing and editing .STN files effectively. Without this plug-in, Photoshop alone will not be able to open or edit STN files.
