What is a .TA0 file?
A .TA0 file is a special kind of computer file used for keeping track of taxes for the year 2020. It is made by a program called TaxAct 2020, which is a tool people use on their Windows computers to help them fill out their tax forms for that year. This file keeps all the important tax information for something called a 1040 form. This includes details about how much money you made, any taxes you owe to the government, or any money the government needs to give back to you. It also has personal information like your name, when you were born, if you're married, what your job is, your social security number, and if you have any children or dependents.
To open and work on a .TA0 file, you need to use the TaxAct program. TaxAct can be used on the internet or downloaded and installed on your computer, but only if you have Windows. When you're working on your taxes in TaxAct and you save your work, it gets saved as a .TA0 file. This file is usually saved in a folder called My Documents\TaxAct2020 on your computer. You can open this file later to keep working on your taxes.
After you finish filling out your tax return in TaxAct, you can choose to print out the forms and mail them, or you can send them to the government online. People usually make these tax files between January and April of 2021 because they are working on taxes for the previous year, 2020.
TaxAct also lets you make a backup of your tax file. This is a copy that you can keep safe in case something goes wrong with the original file, like if it gets lost or damaged. To make a backup, you go to the File menu, choose Backup, and then name your backup file. This backup file ends with .BA0 instead of .TA0.
