What is a .UPS file?
The .UPS file extension is used for UPS Patch Files. These are special files that help change or update game ROMs, which are files that contain video game data. A UPS Patch File can include changes to the game's graphics, models, and various other types of data. This means that these patches can be used to either fix issues in games or to add new content to them. They are useful for both small updates and large modifications to games.
To use a UPS Patch File, you need specific software designed to apply these patches to game ROMs. Some of the programs that can open and apply UPS patches include Tsukuyomi, MultiPatch, and for Android users, apps like Axperianced Apps ROM Patcher and Boris Timofeev's UniPatcher.
The UPS format is an improvement over the older .IPS patch file format. Unlike the IPS format, which can only handle files up to 16MB, the UPS format can support patches for games of any size. It also offers a feature called bi-directional patching. This means a single UPS patch can be used to both apply changes to a game and to reverse those changes if needed. Additionally, UPS files use something called CRC32 checksums. These are a way to make sure that the patch matches the game correctly and to help ensure that the game's data remains accurate and uncorrupted after the patch is applied.
