What is a .VBT file?
A .VBT file is a special kind of file used by a program called High Motion Software VidBatch. This program helps people work with many videos at once, doing things like changing their size or format all together instead of one by one. Think of a .VBT file as a to-do list for VidBatch, telling it exactly what to do with each video.
Inside a .VBT file, there's a bunch of instructions written in a computer language called XML. Even though this sounds complicated, it's just text, which means you can open and look at a .VBT file using simple programs that let you read or edit text. Some of these programs are Vim, Microsoft Notepad (which comes with Windows), and Apple TextEdit (which comes with macOS). Basically, any program that lets you edit text can open a .VBT file.
However, there's a little twist. Sometimes, a security program called avast! Antivirus might mistakenly think a .VBT file is dangerous, like a virus, even though it's not. This mistake is called a "false positive." If you're using Spyware Doctor (another security program) and avast! keeps bothering you about .VBT files, you can tell avast! to ignore the folder where Spyware Doctor keeps these files. This folder is usually found at C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp\. By doing this, avast! will stop giving you warnings about .VBT files being viruses.
