What is a .VCRD file?
The .VCRD file is a type of file used by a program on your computer called Windows Vault. This program started being used in Windows 7, which is a version of the Windows operating system. Windows Vault helps keep your usernames and passwords safe. When you save your login information for different websites or programs, Windows Vault stores this information in a .VCRD file. This file keeps your passwords and other login details in a secret code (encrypted) so that other people can't easily see them.
However, for these .VCRD files to work properly and keep your information safe, they need two other types of files: a schema file with the extension .VSCH and a policy file with the extension .VPOL. These files help check (verify) the user's details are correct.
If you ever need to open a .VCRD file, you can do so using the Windows Vault program that comes with your Windows computer. Another program that can open these files is called Passcape Password Recovery, which is used to help recover passwords.
You can find .VCRD files, along with the .VPOL and .VSCH files, in a specific folder on your computer. This folder is located at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Vault\.
If you want to see or manage your saved usernames and passwords in Windows Vault, you can do this through the Credential Manager. To get there, open the Control Panel on your computer, then choose "User Accounts and Family Safety," and finally, click on "Credential Manager." This is where you can see or change the login information that Windows Vault has saved for you.
