What is a .VDEX file?
A .VDEX file is a special type of file used by Android phones and tablets to make apps run faster. When you download and install an app on your Android device, the Android system works to make sure that app can start and run quickly every time you use it. To do this, Android creates a .VDEX file for the app.
The ".VDEX" stands for Validated Dalvik Executable File. This file contains information that has already been checked and approved by Android, so the system doesn't have to check it again every time the app starts. This is like having a fast-pass to skip a long line, making the app open and run faster.
These .VDEX files work with .DEX files, which are part of the app you downloaded. Normally, Android would need to look at these .DEX files, make sure they're okay, and then convert them into a form it can use. But with .VDEX files, Android has already done this checking and converting ahead of time. This means your app can start up quicker because Android skips the re-checking part.
To see or work with .VDEX files, you might use a program called vdexExtractor. This program can open .VDEX files and let you see what's inside them. However, most users will never need to do this, as it's something mainly developers or people interested in how Android works might want to do.
In 2019, Google, the company that makes Android, introduced the .VDEX file format as a new way to help apps run faster. This was part of their ongoing effort to make Android devices work more smoothly and make apps start quicker, giving you a better experience on your phone or tablet.
.VDEX files are usually found in a special folder on your Android device, but you don't need to worry about them. Android takes care of these files for you, making sure your apps run as efficiently as possible without you having to do anything.
