.VEC File Extension

A .VEC file is a CX-Designer Shape File, created by Martin Schweiger.

Open with Orbiter. Available for Windows.

What is a .VEC file?

A .VEC file is a type of file used by a program called Orbiter. Orbiter is a program that lets you simulate space flights for free. The .VEC file contains a vector map. This map is important because it helps show the shapes of objects in space, like planets. The file is written in simple text that you can read and is found in a specific folder (\Config\...\Data\) after you install Orbiter.

You can open .VEC files with Orbiter itself or with any program that lets you edit text, like Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac.

If you want to make new shapes for your space simulations, you can use something called CX-Designer. This is a tool where you can draw shapes or bring in pictures to use. Once you have your shape or picture, you can right-click on it and choose "Register Shape File." This adds your new shape to the CX-Designer's library as a .VEC file.

It's also worth mentioning that .VEC files and the tools mentioned are part of a bigger system often used with OMRON PTs. OMRON PTs are special devices that let people control machines by touching a screen.
