What is a .WOR file?
The .WOR file extension is used for a MapInfo Workspace File. This type of file is created by a program called MapInfo, which is used for mapping and analyzing geographic areas. Inside a .WOR file, there is a visual map that you can look at and explore by zooming in and out. This map isn't just a simple picture; it often includes useful information about different places shown on the map. For example, it might tell you about the number of people living in an area or what the area is like.
To open a .WOR file, you need to use the MapInfo software made by a company called Pitney Bowes. This software lets you see and work with the map stored in the .WOR file. However, if you want to open this type of file in another program called MapXtreme, you can't do it directly. First, you have to use a special tool within MapInfo called the Geoset Utility to save the workspace as a .GST file, which is called a Geoset. Once it's saved as a .GST file, you can then open it in MapXtreme.
