What is a .WUD file?

A .WUD file is a type of file that comes from a Wii U video game console. Imagine it like a digital copy of a game you would play on the Wii U. This file has all the game's information so you can play it on a computer instead of a Wii U, but you need a special program called an emulator, like Cemu, to do this.

Because Wii U games are really big, often more than 20 gigabytes, the .WUD files are usually broken into smaller pieces, each about 2 gigabytes. This is done to manage the large size more easily. If you have all these pieces, you need to put them back together into one big .WUD file to play the game on the emulator.

People make .WUD files using something called Homebrew on their Wii U. This is a way to get the game off the Wii U and into the .WUD file format. After the game is in this format, if you want to save space on your computer, you can compress the .WUD file. When compressed, the file changes to a .WUX file, which is just a smaller version of the .WUD file.

To play a game from a .WUD file on your computer using Cemu, you open Cemu, go to "File" then "Load," and pick the .WUD file you want to play. It's a neat way to enjoy Wii U games without needing the actual console.
