What is a .XDI file?
The .XDI file extension is used for a type of file known as a WinArchiver Extended Disc Image File. This kind of file is made using a program called WinArchiver, which works on Windows computers. WinArchiver is special because it can do things like make files smaller (compress them), split them into parts (spanning), and protect them with a password (encryption).
When you have a .XDI file, it means you have a compressed version of a disc image. A disc image is like a complete copy of everything on a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray, but it's stored as a single file on your computer. The .XDI format is unique to WinArchiver, so it's not the same as more common disc image files like .ISO.
However, if you need to, you can change a .XDI file back into a standard .ISO file using WinArchiver. To do this, you open WinArchiver, go to the "Tools" menu, and select the option that says "Decompress XDI File..." This will turn the .XDI file into an .ISO file, which is a format that many programs can work with.
To open or work with a .XDI file, you can use the WinArchiver program. Another option is to use WinArchiver Virtual Drive. This program lets you pretend that the .XDI file is an actual disc inserted into your computer. This is called mounting the file as a virtual drive. When you do this, your computer acts like the disc image is a real disc, so you can see and use the files inside the .XDI file as if they were on a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray that you put into your computer.
