What is a .ZMA file?

A .ZMA file is a type of data file that is used with certain computer programs to help with designing and testing speakers. This file contains important information about a speaker, such as how much resistance (impedance) it has and details about its phase, which are key for understanding how the speaker will perform. It's a bit like having a detailed map of how a speaker behaves with different sounds. These files are quite similar to another type called .FRD files.

You can open and work with .ZMA files using a program called Room EQ Wizard, which is a tool that helps you measure and adjust the acoustics of audio systems to get the best sound. Another program that used to work with .ZMA files is SPL Tracer, but it's not available anymore. There's also Audua Speaker Workshop, a program that was designed for older Windows computers (like Windows 95, 98, XP, and 2000) to help users create and test their own loudspeakers. However, this program is also no longer available.

If you have the Speaker Workshop program and want to use a .ZMA file with it, you would go into the program and either click on "Resource" then "Import..." or right-click on the area called "Project Tree" and select "Import..." from there. After that, you find the .ZMA file you want to use and open it. This lets you bring the speaker data from the .ZMA file into Speaker Workshop so you can work with it.

Even though some of the programs that work with .ZMA files are not available anymore, Room EQ Wizard is still a good option for those looking to analyze and improve speaker performance using .ZMA files.
