What is a .AML file?
An .AML file is a type of computer file used mainly to help computers understand how to use their hardware properly. It stands for Microsoft Assistance Markup Language File. This file is special because it is written in a language called ACPI Machine Language (AML), which is very basic and close to the computer's hardware. This language helps set up the computer's hardware settings, like how it saves power or talks to different parts of the computer.
People often use .AML files when they want to run Mac OS X, which is the operating system for Apple computers, on non-Apple computers. This is sometimes done on computers with P55 motherboards, a type of circuit board inside the computer, to make them work more like Apple computers. This process is known as creating a "Hackintosh" system. .AML files help these non-Apple computers work better with Mac OS X by improving how they handle hardware, like the keyboard, mouse, and memory.
To open and work with .AML files, you can use programs like iasl, DSDTSE, and again iasl. These programs help you see and change the instructions inside the .AML files.

For Mac OS X to recognize these .AML files, they need to be placed in a specific location, known as the root directory.
If you want to customize an .AML file, you can use a tool called DSDTSE, made by the EVOSX86 team. However, you can't change .AML files directly. First, you have to convert them into a different format, called ".dsl", make your changes, and then convert them back into ".aml" format.
It's important to know that .AML files work at a very basic level in the computer, right between the BIOS (the program a computer uses to start up) and the operating system (like Windows or Mac OS X). This means they are very important for the computer's basic operations, especially in managing how it uses power and communicates with its hardware.
