What is a .ES file?
The .ES file extension is used for a project file created by a program called E-Studio. E-Studio is a tool that comes with the E-Prime program suite, which is made by Psychology Software Tools. It's mainly used by people who are conducting psychological experiments, especially those related to behavior.
When someone is setting up an experiment in psychology, they often need to design how the experiment will work. This includes planning what will happen during the experiment, what kind of things participants will see or hear (like videos or sounds), and how the experiment will record what happens. The .ES file contains all this information. It's like a blueprint for the experiment, detailing every step, from the beginning setup to the end, including what stimuli will be introduced and how data will be collected.
To open a .ES file, you would use the E-Prime software, specifically the E-Studio part of it. This software lets researchers create, edit, and run their psychological experiments.
If you've designed an experiment with E-Studio and you're ready to see how it works, you can make it ready to run by selecting "Run → Generate" from the menu in the application. This process is called compiling the design. After compiling, you can actually run the experiment by choosing "Run → Run" from the menu.
It's important to note that there's a newer version of E-Studio that saves experiment designs with a different file extension, .ES2. This means if you're using the latest version of E-Studio, you might be working with .ES2 files instead of .ES files for your experiment designs.
