What is a .GWI file?
A .GWI file is a special kind of file that works with a program called GroupWise. GroupWise is used by people at work to help them communicate and organize things together. The .GWI file doesn't hold actual messages or records itself. Instead, it points to where these things are stored in the GroupWise system. Think of it like a shortcut or a signpost that tells the program where to find certain information, such as messages or records, within GroupWise.
This file can contain details like who the user is, what version it is, the type of item it's pointing to, the ID of the message, and where in GroupWise it's located. To open a .GWI file, you need to use the GroupWise program. It's designed to work specifically with GroupWise, so trying to open it with another program won't work.
GroupWise uses these .GWI files to make it easier for users to quickly access and share information within the database. However, if the information the .GWI file points to is deleted or removed from the GroupWise database, then the .GWI file won't work anymore because the information it's trying to find doesn't exist. It's like if the place a signpost is pointing to is gone, the signpost doesn't help much anymore.
