What is a .GWD file?
A .GWD file is a special type of file used to design watch faces for Samsung watches. It's made with a program called Samsung Galaxy Watch Studio. This program lets people who make apps and designs for watches come up with their own watch faces. A watch face is what you see on the screen of the watch, showing the time and sometimes other information like battery life or heart rate.
In a .GWD file, you can find everything that makes up the look of a watch face. This includes the background picture, the numbers or marks that show the hours, any pictures or animations, and extra features like showing your heart rate or how much battery is left. It also includes the design of the watch hands – that's the moving parts that point to the hour and minutes.
To open and work with a .GWD file, you need to use Samsung Galaxy Watch Studio. This program is pretty cool because it lets you change every little detail of the watch face. You can decide how big or small things are, where they go on the watch face, what angle they're at, what kind of font or letters to use, and even what language and time format it shows.
After you're done making your watch face, you can turn it into a .TPK file. This is the type of file that you can then put up on the Galaxy store for other people to download and use on their watches.
It's important to know that Galaxy Watch Studio used to be called Gear Watch Designer, but they changed the name. Also, if you made a .GWD file with a newer version of the program, you can't open it with an older version. And, if you're designing for older Samsung watches like the Gear S or Gear Fit2, you need to use an older version of the program, because the new version doesn't support those models anymore.
