What is a .IGB file?
An IGB file is a special type of computer file used in video games. It is called an Intrinsic Graphics Binary File. This file contains information about characters in a video game, like how they look or how they move. These files were mainly used in games made by companies called Intrinsic Graphics, Vicarious Visions, and Activision.
When you play a video game that uses the Intrinsic Alchemy Engine (a tool for making video games), the characters you see and their movements might be stored in an IGB file. However, opening an IGB file outside of these games is not straightforward because there are no widely available programs designed to open them for the general public.
The story behind these files is quite interesting. In 2003, a company named Vicarious Visions bought another company called Intrinsic Graphics. By doing this, Vicarious Visions got the rights to use the Intrinsic Alchemy Engine, a powerful tool for creating 3D video games. Vicarious Visions, which later became part of a bigger company named Activision in 2005, used this engine to make many popular games. Some of these games include titles from the X-Men Legends series, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series, and Pirates of the Burning Sea. The characters and animations in these games were saved as IGB files. Vicarious Visions also allowed other game developers to use the Intrinsic Alchemy Engine, so they could create their own games with unique characters and animations, also saved in IGB files.
