What is a .OGW file?
An .OGW file is a special kind of document used by a program called Origin, which is a tool for analyzing data and making graphs. This is something that scientists and engineers often use. Think of an .OGW file like a notebook that has many pages (worksheets) where you can organize your data in rows and columns, and also make notes. Besides the data, these files keep track of the look of the workbook, what each column is for, and any special notes you've made in the cells of the spreadsheet.
To open these .OGW files, you can use the Origin program or the Origin Viewer. Origin is the main software for working with these files, but it only works on Windows computers. It lets you create new .OGW files, open existing ones, and change them. If you don't have Origin or you're using a Mac, you can use Origin Viewer instead. It's free and lets you look at .OGW files on both Windows and Mac computers.
When you want to open an .OGW file in Origin, you go to the File menu, choose Open..., then look for the file you want to open by selecting "Origin Window .ogw" as the file type. After finding your file, you click Open to view it. If you have a workbook setup that you like and want to use again, you can save it as a template. This means you save the layout without any data, so you can use the same setup for different projects. To do this, you go to File, then Save Template As... for a basic template, or Save Workbook As Analysis Template... if you want to include some analysis settings in your template.
It's also worth noting that in 2018, Origin introduced a new way to save these workbook files, called .OGWU, which is better than the old .OGW format because it works faster and supports more characters from different languages.
