What is a .OGWU file?
An OGWU file is a special kind of document used by a program called Origin, starting from its 2018 version. Origin is a tool that scientists and engineers use to analyze data and make graphs. This file, OGWU, is like a notebook that can have one or more pages, called worksheets. On these pages, you can find data arranged in rows and columns, kind of like in a spreadsheet, along with notes and comments. It also keeps track of the look of the workbook, what each column is for, and any special notes about the cells in the spreadsheet.
To open these OGWU files, you can use the Origin program or something called Origin Viewer. Origin is the main software for making, opening, and changing these files, but it only works on Windows computers. Origin Viewer is a free option that lets you look at these files on both Windows and Mac computers, but you can't change the files with it.
If you have an OGWU file and want to open it in Origin, you go to the File menu, choose Open..., then look for the file on your computer, select it, and click Open. Origin also lets you save these workbooks in a special way so you can use the same layout again without the data, by saving it as a template. You can do this by going to File, then Save Template As..., and Origin will make a new file that saves this layout. If you want to save the whole workbook as a template, including any analysis you've done, you choose Save Workbook As Analysis Template..., and it will also be saved in an OGWU file.
Before OGWU files, Origin used OGW files for saving these workbooks, but OGWU files are better because they use Unicode. This means they can handle more types of characters and are generally faster and more efficient.
