What is a .VML file?
A .VML file is a type of computer file that uses Vector Markup Language. This is a special way of writing files in XML, which is a code that computers understand, to describe pictures that are made of shapes like lines and circles, instead of dots like regular pictures. These kinds of pictures can be made bigger or smaller without losing quality. You often see .VML files used on websites to show these sharp images.
You can open .VML files with some programs made by Microsoft, a big company that makes computer software. These programs include Microsoft Word 365, which is used for typing documents; Microsoft Visio 2021, which is good for making diagrams; Microsoft PowerPoint 365, for creating presentations; and Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is a program for browsing the internet but is no longer being updated. Even though the way .VML files are made isn't being improved anymore, these programs can still open and show them. For example, when you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to look at websites, it can show images made with .VML, like the maps you see on Google Maps.
