.VMLF File Extension

A .VMLF file is a VAIO Video File, created by Sony.

Open with GSpot. Available for Windows.

What is a .VMLF file?

A .VMLF file is a type of video file that is specifically used by Sony VAIO computers. This file format is created by two programs: Picture Motion Browser (PMB) or Windows Movie Maker (WMM). These programs are used to manage and edit videos. The .VMLF file contains video data that has been converted from other common video formats, such as MPEG and .AVI, into a format that these programs can use.

To open a .VMLF file, you can use a program called GSpot. GSpot helps you understand more about the video file, like what codec is needed to play it properly. A codec is a type of software that compresses and decompresses digital video.

Sometimes, .VMLF files are created by accident, especially if there was a problem installing a Windows service pack (which is an update for the Windows operating system) or if the computer crashed. Also, if the correct codec is missing and the PMB or WMM programs can't decompress (open and play) the original video project files, these programs will convert the video into a folder that includes a .VMLF file and a .VMLT file. Both of these files contain the same video data, but they are used in different ways by the computer to manage and play the video.

If you find a .VMLF file on your computer and you're not sure how to play it, using the GSpot utility can help. GSpot will look at the file and suggest how you can play the video, usually by helping you find and install the correct codec.
